A Protection Coordination Study (also known as a Protective Device Coordination Study or Relay Coordination Study) is an engineering analysis performed to ensure that all electrical protective devices within a power distribution system operate in the correct sequence and with appropriate timing during fault or abnormal conditions.
The main objective of this study is to minimize the impact of electrical faults by isolating only the affected portion of the system while keeping the rest of the network in service — thereby enhancing safety, reliability, and system continuity.
