CASE STUDY

The Kansai Electric Power Company will be a potential developer of two hydro power plant (HPP) projects in Kalimantan. The first project is the Mahakam HPP project in East Kalimantan province. The second project is the Barito HPP project in Central Kalimantan province. The new HPP project requires in-depth technical grid study to see the effect of the connection of the HPP to the performance of the electrical system, especially the electrical system in East and Central Kalimantan grid, to ensure it meets the grid requirements and to guarantee it will not cause a decrease in PLN grid performance. Furthermore, if any problems occur on the connection of the HPP to the East and Central Kalimantan grid, mitigation mechanism will be conducted and recommended to resolve the problem.

DELIVERABLES

To analyze the performance of East and Central Kalimantan Power System when the HPP is interconnected, and to confirm that the HPP can be connected to the system with no major foreseen risks in terms of Grid Connection, and to recommend mitigation plans if there are any adverse findings.
